Class of 2021 at Birmingham Community Charter High celebrates graduation ceremonies

The class of 2021 at Birmingham Community Charter High School in Lake Balboa shouted for joy — and sighed with relief — as they celebrated their big day during an in-person graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 3 at the school’s football stadium.

Due to health safety and to comply with social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic, the class celebrated in two split ceremonies on June 4 at the football stadium. The 2021 class size was more than 600 graduates.

The ceremonies were live streamed on the school’s Facebook channel for family and friends who were not able to watch in-person (bit.ly/3pgfEZx). The school had a two ticket per graduate limit for family members.

The school was founded in 1953 on land that was a used during World War II as a military hospital for the United States Army.

Noted alumni from the school include Bill Handel, Sally Field, Terry Gilliam, Jermaine Jackson, Tamera and Tia Mowry, Daniel Pearl, Bobby Sherman, Pam Skaist-Levy, Karen Valentine, Diane Warren and Cindy Williams (bit.ly/3fKTX0p).
