FBI releases declassified document on 9/11 attacks

The FBI released late Saturday a newly declassified document related to its investigation into the planning of the 9/11 attacks and the possible role Saudi officials may have played.

Driving the news: The release of the heavily redacted document from 2016 on the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks is expected to be the first of several previously classified records of the investigation to be disclosed, following an executive order President Biden issued earlier this month.

Victims’ families told Biden they would object to his presence Saturday’s memorial events unless he declassified documents they believe will show the Saudi Arabian government supported the attacks. The Saudi government has always denied any wrongdoing.
