The 13th annual “Get Your Licks on Route 66,” a cross-country pet adoption tour, kicked off on Saturday, Sept. 4 at East Valley Los Angeles Animal Services Center in Van Nuys.

The tour is aimed at finding forever homes for pets in animal shelters as it makes its way at stops along the old Route 66. The tour founder Susan Sims wanted to add more fun to each stop through the use of a “spinning prize wheel,” that raises funds for the individual shelters along the route.

“We are so excited about this year’s tour,” Sims, who is also the publisher of Fido Friendly Magazine, said in an email. “So many times, an animal shelter is a sad place to be, knowing that many pets are there due to no fault of their own. We bring our sponsor supported spinning wheel, where with a donation, adoption event attendees can spin and win fabulous prizes with all proceeds benefiting the shelter of the day.”

Tour sponsors include Homeagain and Sure Petcare, manufacturers of pet technology products; Embrace Pet Insurance; Tito’s Vodka for Dog People; Animal Radio; Zymox; Catit; Buddy Belts; Brutus Bone Broth; DogTV; KOA (Kampgrounds of America) and HandsOn Gloves.

The tour runs through Oct. 9. Details about the tour here: www.fidofriendly.com/blog/fido-friendly-magazine-13th-annual-cross-country-pet-adoption-tour
