Multiple homes burning in fire near West Oakland BART

A three-alarm fire near the West Oakland BART station gutted at least three homes Monday morning, officials said.

The blaze broke out before 6 a.m. at Ninth Street and Peralta Street and was still active as of 6:30 a.m., according to the Oakland Fire Department.

Approximately 50 firefighters are battling flames in 1500 block of Nine street, the department said. No injuries have been reported. The number of displaced is unknown. 

The fire department shared video footage of scorched homes and at least one looked as if it could be a Victorian. 

“At least three buildings have suffered significant damage at this 3Alarm incident at 9th & Peralta,” the department wrote on Twitter. “This is still an active scene.”

Flames impacted power lines.

KTVU reported that the blaze started inside one of the homes and quickly spread to a home next door. Firefighters told KTVU that they do not believe anyone was inside the affected homes. 

Residents in the area were evacuated and the area is blocked off to cars. 

A large plume of smoke over the fire was visible from interstates 980 and 880. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
