A security guard who works for Bay Area TV news stations was reportedly shot in Oakland on Wednesday afternoon.

The unidentified man was shot at about 12:20 p.m. on the 300 block of 14th Street in downtown Oakland, the East Bay Times reported. According to KPIX, the guard was “with a news crew at the time.” The man was taken to Highland Hospital; his condition is unknown.

“One of our dearest security guards was shot while protecting a TV news crew from another station today,” KPIX reporter Maria Cid Medina wrote on Twitter. “Our hearts are with him.”

Former Bay Area TV personality Stanley Roberts also tweeted about the incident, saying the altercation occurred during “a news crew robbery.”

The East Bay Times reported the news crew was filming a follow-up to the burglary that took place Monday night at the nearby Prime 356 store. The Times reported the man is a former San Jose police officer who now works private security.

Oakland police are expected to release additional details on the shooting later today.
